Simon's Choreography

i love you, i still love you
March 2020

"i love you, i still love you" is an interview based work researching how we adapt when mental illness and love & relationships intersect. The work focuses on different types of mental illness, and how they interact with many different type of relationships. It was choreographed for Project 31's 2020 Spring show "Group Therapy".

Program note:"I'm finnicky, and emotional, and too much most of the time. I'm afraid I'm just not worth that." -Esther Farley

may i have a sandwich please? December 2020

may i have a sandwich please? is a work that was inspired by Ivor Cutler. This work explores the polar extremes of literal versus abstract art, and the assumptions that accompany each. This work is both about eating a sandwich out of a brown paper bag, and societal expectations of remaining within the status quo. It works with theatrics and humor, as well as creating a space of reserved concentration. This work attempts to expose the intentions behind creating art; untangling what is superficial fabrication meant for outside approval versus what is genuine development created for oneself.

The Kindness Project: SELF April 2019

The Kindness Project: SELF is a full length multidisciplinary show that utilized movement and paint on canvas to explore self, society, and how one exists in that society. â€‹As a genderqueer artist, this was a significant moment of self and gender exploration for Simon, and they are forever grateful  for the outpouring of support received from the community.

[redacted] April 2018

[redacted] is a piece that focuses on stillness and simplicity, reiterating common gestures that build throughout. It attempts to capture the feeling of being in a dream-like state of routine, unable to break out until woken up. When the reality is finally seen, they have no option but to run. [redacted] was adapted into a longer work renamed Through the Shadows which premiered the following year.
